International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination - March 21
Mayor Jeff Leal has released the following statement to recognize the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination:
“March 21 marks the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, a day recognized around the world to reaffirm our commitment to dignity, equality and justice for all.
"Peterborough is a growing and diverse community. Our strength lies in the contributions, cultures and perspectives of people from many backgrounds who call our city home. Creating a community where everyone feels respected, safe and included means continuing to challenge prejudice, confront systemic barriers and support equity in our institutions and everyday interactions.
"On this day, I encourage residents to reflect on the role each of us can play in standing against racism and discrimination. By listening and learning from one another, we can help build a community that is more inclusive, more compassionate and more just for everyone.”
