Hello Peterborough: New Resources Unveiled to Support Tourism in the City
Visitors to the City of Peterborough are accessing new tools and services to help them make the most of their exploration of the City’s attractions, accommodations, dining, experiences, and events, with new resources from Peterborough Tourism, the City’s destination marketing program.
Among the suite of resources are a new destination guide and map, website and social media handles, and visitor service activations that are being delivered at key events, as well as from the new Visitor Information Centre located in the Grant Thornton Box Office at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.
“We’re inviting new and returning visitors, locals, and seasonal residents from the surrounding Kawarthas cottage country to say, ‘Hello Peterborough!’ and explore all that the community has to offer,” says City of Peterborough Mayor Jeff Leal.
Engaging content for visitors
The Peterborough Tourism website at hellopeterborough.ca (also at ptbotourism.ca) has been designed with a content-rich user experience. Filled with engaging photos and videos, a tourism business directory, and the development of “Our Stories” blog content that naturally lends itself to the type of information that visitors are looking for. The two main print publications – a City-focused destination guide, and a regional visitor map developed in partnership with Peterborough County, round out the storytelling toolkit.
“This new suite of marketing tools allows for visitors to navigate around Peterborough based on their unique interests, discover new opportunities and hidden gems, and ultimately, to contribute to our local economy through visitor expenditures and overnight stays. Additionally, it is an excellent customer service tool for teams across the City,” says Brendan Wedley, Strategic Communications and Service Peterborough Director.
Convenient visitor services location
The new Peterborough Tourism Visitor Information Centre is operating from a refreshed home base at the Grant Thornton Box Office within the Peterborough Memorial Centre, 151 Lansdowne Street West. The Visitor Information Centre is conveniently located at the corner of George and Lansdowne Streets, with free parking for visitors and locals, and along Peterborough Transit routes. Services are available in-person and over the phone (705-743-3561) from 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and by email at hello@peterborough.ca.
Visitors are also able to pick up the destination guide and map at various locations, City facilities, and major attractions throughout Peterborough.
Tourism activation in the city
Peterborough Tourism will also be supporting visitor services and tourism activations at various key points of interest and events in the city, including the land-based programming at Parks Canada’s annual Lock and Paddle event taking place on Saturday, July 19. The City of Peterborough is leading the creation of an interactive kids’ zone, yoga sessions, and sessions on water safety. Details for this event are available on Parks Canada’s Lock & Paddle 2025 website and on social media under the hashtag #LockandPaddle.
Other initiatives that are being led by the City’s destination marketing program include several successful sports tourism bid opportunities coming to Peterborough in 2025 and 2026, media hosting including a live broadcast with CP24 Breakfast, and the development of a comprehensive City-focused Tourism Strategy. Community and stakeholder consultation to inform the Tourism Strategy will get underway in the fall.
