City of Peterborough Marks Two-Year Anniversary of the Modular Bridge Housing Community

Peterborough, ON - The City of Peterborough’s Modular Bridge Housing Community celebrated its two-year anniversary in November 2025, reflecting on the success of the program so far and the impact on the lives of its residents.  

Approved by City Council in May 2023, construction on the 50 transitional housing units was completed on November 16, 2023 and residents began moving into units on November 27, 2023. 

A key feature of the Modular Bridge Housing Community is a service hub that supports and helps residents access services, with staff support from the Elizabeth Fry Society operating on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 

Since the project began, 12 residents have successfully moved from modular housing into stable housing in the community; half of those residents are from the Indigenous community, which typically experiences higher rates of housing instability and homelessness.  

Fifteen residents currently residing in modular housing are involved in an on-site work program, and two residents have found employment in the community.  

The City received $2.5 million from the Province of Ontario’s Homelessness Prevention Program in 2023 to operate the site for two years.  

“I want to acknowledge the dedicated work of Councillors Alex Bierk and Keith Riel, our partners, staff, and frontline teams who have supported this project from day one. This anniversary is a reminder of what we can accomplish when we work together with compassion and purpose. As a City, we remain committed to building pathways to long-term, sustainable housing for everyone in our community,” said Mayor Jeff Leal.  

The Modular Bridge Housing Community remains at full capacity.  

“As we mark the two-year anniversary of the Modular Bridge Housing project, we want to recognize the meaningful impact this initiative has had in our community. Over the past two years, the project has provided stability and safety for residents on their path toward permanent housing. This is an important step forward in the right direction as we continue to find solutions and strengthen housing supports for people in Peterborough,” said Community Services (Homelessness) co-chairs Keith Riel and Alex Bierk in a joint statement.
