Celebrate the Opening of the Millennium Time Capsule

Peterborough, ON – Residents are invited to join a special community celebration on Wednesday, August 6 at 10 a.m. at Millennium Park, 130 King St., as the City of Peterborough, in partnership with the New Canadians Centre and the Nogojiwanong Friendship Centre, opens the Millennium Time Capsule, originally buried in 2000.

The capsule was sealed in the Millennium Park Fountain to mark the turn of the new millennium. Now, 25 years later, the public is invited to witness the unsealing and see a selection of items that captured life in Peterborough at the dawn of the 21st century.

In honour of the City’s 175th anniversary since its incorporation as the Town of Peterborough, a new time capsule – the 175th Anniversary Time Capsule – will be buried during the event, to be opened in 2050. Residents are invited to enjoy light refreshments, receive a commemorative pin and take a photo. Naandewegaan - Healing with Drums- will be part of the celebration.
