Celebrate Canada Day with the City of Peterborough

Peterborough, ON – Temporary road closures and on-street parking restrictions will be in place in the downtown core Tuesday, July 1, 2025, to accommodate the annual Canada Day Parade and festivities. 

To ensure public safety and support the parade staging and route, the following streets will be closed:   

  • George Street North from McDonnel Street to Murray Street will be closed from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 

  • Murray Street, between George Street North and Water Street, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 

  • George Street North will be closed from Murray Street to King Street from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 

  • King Street from George Street North to Millenium Park from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 

  • A portion of Simcoe Street east of Charlotte Street near Millennium Park will be closed from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. to accommodate a refreshment area 

Pre-parade activities will begin at 10 a.m. outside City Hall, 500 George St. N., and will include a decorated bicycle contest and opening remarks. Cake will be served as part of the celebrations.  

The Canada Day Parade begins at 11 a.m., moving south along George Street to Millennium Park, where community celebrations continue throughout the day, including live performances, family-friendly activities, food vendors, and fireworks over Little Lake at 9:30 p.m. 

Don’t forget to join the City on Monday, June 30, 2025 for a free outdoor screening of Fly Away Home at Quaker Foods City Square, 215 Charlotte St. Quaker Foods is generously donating snacks and treats for the evening and the City will be providing free popcorn. Movie-goers are encouraged to arrive at 8 p.m. as supplies are limited. Please bring an outdoor chair and water. The movie begins at dusk.  

Road closures may affect some Peterborough Transit routes. Follow Peterborough Transit Service Alerts on Facebook or @ptbo_transit on X for updates or call Transit Customer Service at 705-745-0525. 

Road users and pedestrians are asked to use alternate routes during the road closures and follow all posted signage and barricades for both on-street parking restrictions and road closures. Parking enforcement will begin at 6 a.m. on July 1, 2025. 

Vehicles parked in prohibited locations will be subject to enforcement actions, which may include the issuance of a penalty notice, towing and impoundment of the vehicle, or a combination of these measures. 

Individuals whose vehicles are towed or impounded can call the City of Peterborough Municipal Law Enforcement and Security Services Division at 705-707-3969 on the following business day for information on the towing provider and impound yard location.
