UPDATE: The metal fire in the area of Erskine Avenue and The Kingsway is out as of about 3:50 p.m. on October 20, 2025. Air quality warnings and travel restrictions are lifted. 

Residents can sign up for Alertable, a community notification system that provides emergency alerts and essential updates directly through text messages, SMS notifications, telephone messages and emails. It is designed to ensure clear and timely updates to users and ensure effective communication to enhance public safety.

Peterborough, ON – A metal fire in the area of Erskine Avenue and The Kingsway is resulting in smoke and poor air quality.  

Residents and businesses in the area are advised to close windows and shut off HVAC units. Anyone outside in the immediate area should go inside.  

Residents are asked to avoid the area at this time and to follow the direction of emergency responders.  

As a reminder, 9-1-1 should be used for emergencies only. Residents can follow local news channels or the City of Peterborough’s social media channels for further updates.
