A New Way to Regulate Development in the City of Peterborough

Peterborough, ON – The City of Peterborough is hosting two community meetings to share details about the updated Community Planning Permit System and By-law Project.

At its meeting on March 10, 2025, City Council expanded the scope of the Community Planning Permit System and By-law Project beyond the Strategic Growth Areas to include all lands within the City.

The Community Planning Permit System is a land use planning tool which combines three current development approval processes (Zoning By-law Amendments, Minor Variances and Site Plan applications) into one single application and approval process. This will streamline development approvals and modernize development regulations.

The Community Planning Permit By-law will implement the vision of the City’s Official Plan and replace the City’s Zoning By-law with established regulations for development and redevelopment, such as permitted and discretionary land uses, building heights, setbacks and more.

This project builds on previous community engagement meetings held in October 2024 and February 2025.

There are two options to take part in this community meeting, both of which cover the same material. Please note that registration is required.

The in-person meeting takes place on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Miskin Law Community Complex Multipurpose Room, 271 Lansdowne St. W. Please note capacity is limited to 120 participants.

An online meeting takes place via Zoom Webinar on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
