2025 International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia

Mayor Jeff Leal has released the following statement for the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia:

“Today, on the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, we stand in solidarity with 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals in Peterborough and around the world. This day is a powerful reminder of the importance of equality, dignity, and the right of every person to live free from discrimination and fear, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

"While we have made progress as a society, too many people continue to face intolerance, violence and marginalization simply for being who they are. In Peterborough, we are committed to building a city that is safe, inclusive, and welcoming to all. That commitment must extend beyond words and must be reflected in our actions and how we support one another every day.

"I want to thank the advocates, organizations and community leaders who work tirelessly to promote understanding, challenge prejudice and create spaces where everyone can belong. Your efforts make our community stronger and more compassionate.

"Together, we will continue to stand up, speak out, and move forward in the name of equality and human rights for all.”
