Job Details
Join the City of Peterborough as a Lab Technician and play a key role in protecting our environment and supporting public health. As part of our Environmental Services Division, you’ll be the first point of contact for customers submitting samples for environmental testing. You’ll manage sample intake, support laboratory analysis, and ensure data is accurately logged and reported—all while helping maintain compliance with regulatory standards.
This is a hands-on role that blends customer service with technical lab work. From preparing reagents to assisting with chemical testing and managing sample records, you’ll contribute to the day-to-day operations of a busy, community-focused laboratory. Qualifications
- Completion of a 3-year college diploma in Environmental Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field
- Minimum of 1 year of combined previous and on-the-job lab experience (preferably in an accredited facility)
- Strong computer skills and accurate data entry abilities
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Proven attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Commitment to quality customer service and a professional, courteous approach
- Strong initiative and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Interest in growing services and supporting continuous improvement
- Willingness to work in a lab setting with exposure to odours and potentially hazardous substances
