Potential Measles Exposure on Some Peterborough Transit Routes

Peterborough, ON – Peterborough Public Health has identified three Peterborough Transit routes, as well as several other locations in the city, as known exposure locations for an identified case of measles in the City of Peterborough.  

The identified routes and exposure times are as follows:  

  • Route 6 (Sherbrooke West), between June 2 and June 4, from 7:34 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 2:34 p.m. to 5 p.m. 

  • Route 6 (Sherbrooke East), between June 2 and June 4, from 9:12 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.  

  • Route 22, Community Bus Blue, June 5, 9:20 a.m. to 11:25 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. to 5 p.m. 

The City of Peterborough is taking steps to ensure the safety of transit users and staff.  

Signage is being placed on the identified routes and around the bus terminal to inform transit users of the potential exposure and the Peterborough Public Health guidance related to exposure. 

Any residents who are concerned about potential measles exposure are asked to follow the following steps as outlined by Peterborough Public Health:  

  • Check your vaccination record: Confirm that household members have received two doses of the measles vaccination (MMR or MMRV). If you have two doses of measles vaccine you are not considered susceptible 

  • Residents who do not have two doses or are unsure should notify Peterborough Public Health at 705-743-1000 

  • Consider vulnerability and need for post-exposure care: Residents who were exposed and are immunocompromised, unvaccinated or pregnant should contact Peterborough Public Health at 705-743-1000 to assess eligibility and need for post-exposure care 

  • Monitor for symptoms: Stay home if you develop any symptoms. Contact PPH if you have measles.
