Dear Community Members, Students, and Patrons

We are glad you are back at the Centre and hope that you are getting back into your fitness routines.

As you may know beginning on September 22, 2021 the provincial government is requiring proof of vaccination prior to entry into fitness and sport recreational facilities, and many of you have questions about this vaccine passport. This communication is to provide you the information on the guidelines provided by the Province of Ontario that have been reviewed with Peterborough Public Health.

When will the passport come into effect?

Starting Wednesday, September 22, 2021, you will need to provide your government issued identification along with proof that you are fully vaccinated.  You are considered fully vaccinated 14 days after receiving the full series of a COVID-19 vaccine or combination of COVID-19 vaccines approved by World Health Organization (e.g., two doses of a two-dose vaccine series, or one dose of a single-dose vaccine series).

Please be aware that a photo ID is not required. Acceptable forms of identification include birth certificate, citizenship card, driver’s licence, government issued ID card, health card, Indigenous membership card, passport and permanent resident card.

How can I get my proof of vaccination?

Currently, vaccine receipts are available in PDF form to be downloaded or printed to your computer, phone, or tablet. Ontarians who received their first or second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine out of province should contact their local public health unit to record their information and receive proper documentation. Both proof of identity along with proof of vaccination will be required. Individuals can provide proof of immunization by downloading or printing their vaccine receipt from the web portal, or by calling the Provincial Vaccine Booking Line at 1-833-943-3900.

Are there any exemptions to this regulation?

Any patron that under the age of 12 will be eligible to access the Centre without proof of vaccination but must be accompanied into the building by an adult and the adult must show proof of vaccination.

Patrons under 18 years of age who are entering the indoor premises of a facility used for sports and recreational fitness activities solely for the purpose of actively participating in an organized sport, in accordance with the guidance below. The exemption relating to youth under 18 years of age actively participating in indoor organized sport applies to training, practices, games, and competitions. Examples of an organized sport for which the exemption applies include:

  • sports leagues
  • organized pick-up sports
  • dance classes
  •  martial arts
  • swimming classes

The exemption does not apply to youth who are spectators at sporting events, nor does the exemption apply to youth who are using a gym or other area with exercise equipment or weights unless actively participating in an organized sport.

What if I don’t want to disclose my vaccination status?

It is the discretion of the individual to determine whether they would like to disclose their vaccination status, however proof of vaccination status is required to be permitted entry or access into the Centre.

Will people with medical exemptions be allowed to access settings requiring proof of vaccination?

Individuals who cannot receive the vaccine due to medical exemptions will be permitted with a written document  completed and supplied by a physician (designated as “MD”) or by a registered nurse in the extended class (designated as “Registered Nurse (Extended Class)”, “RN(EC)”, “Nurse Practitioner” or “NP”) stating that the individual is exempt for a medical reason from being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and the effective time-period for the medical reason, along with their government issued ID.

Once the passport comes into effect will I still be COVID screened?

Yes, we will still be asking the screening questions at the front door prior to entering.  This is also where you will show proof of vaccination.

Will I just need to show proof only once?

Proof of vaccination and one piece of valid government ID will be required each visit.

If I am not fully vaccinated what will happen with my membership?

Your membership will remain active, if you are not fully vaccinated by September 22, 2021 you will unfortunately not be able to use the Centre until you are fully vaccinated, unless you meet one of the exemptions above.

If you have not requested a hold for 2021 you can request a hold starting for October to provide you time with this process or you can also request a termination of membership.

Please see our online Membership Services page.
