Sheldon Laidman hired as new Commissioner of Community Services

Peterborough - The City of Peterborough has hired Sheldon Laidman as the Commissioner of Community Services. Mr. Laidman will start his new role on September 9, 2019. 

The Community Services department includes the Social Services Division (including Housing), Arts, Culture and Heritage (including the Art Gallery of Peterborough, Heritage Preservation Office, Peterborough Museum and Archives), Peterborough Public Library, Arenas, Recreation, Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre and Sustainability.  

Laidman brings over twenty years of municipal experience including the following positions at the City of Kingston:

  • Director, Housing and Social Services Department 
  • Acting Director, Planning and Development Department 
  • Director, Housing Department 

Prior to these roles, Laidman worked for the Township of Rideau Lakes and the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing.

Mr. Laidman has a Master of Public Administration Degree from Queen’s University, a Master of Arts in Geography from University of Vermont, a Bachelor of Arts Degree from McMaster University and a Municipal Administration Program Certificate from Loyalist College. 

“The selection panel was very impressed with Sheldon’s breadth of experience,” said City CAO Sandra Clancy. “His approach and knowledge will be an asset to many of the current issues that the City of Peterborough is dealing with within this portfolio.”
