Notice of the passing of a Development Charges By-law by the City of Peterborough
TAKE NOTICE that the Council of the City of Peterborough passed Development Charge By-law No. 24-081 on the 2nd day of December 2024, under Section 2 of the Development Charges Act, 1997 (the Act).
AND TAKE NOTICE that any person or organization may appeal to the Ontario Land Tribunal under Section 14 of the Act, in respect of the Development Charges By-law, by filing with the Clerk of the City of Peterborough on or before Monday, January 13th, 2025 a notice of appeal setting out the objection to the By-law and the reasons supporting the objection. Appeals filed with the Office of the City Clerk at 500 George St N, Peterborough ON K9H 3R9, will be accepted on or before Monday, January 13th, 2025. A processing fee will be payable to the City of Peterborough’s Clerk’s Office with the appeal application. The appellant is advised to contact the Ontario Land Tribunal to access required forms and applicable fees.
The charges in the aforementioned by-law will apply to all new residential and non-residential development in the City, subject to certain terms, conditions and limited exemptions as identified therein.
Development charges are levied against new development to pay for the increased capital costs related to the provision of such municipal services as Development-Related Studies, Library Services, Fire Services, Police Services, Emergency Medical Services, Recreation, Parks, Transit, Waste Management, Long-Term Care, Services Related to a Highway and Sewage Services. Schedule 1 below sets out the development charge rates applicable throughout the geographic boundary of the City of Peterborough and therefore a map has not been provided. Development charges are imposed on the development of all lands located within the geographic boundaries of the City.
The development charges imposed under By-law 24-081 come into effect on the 1st day of January 2025. Copies of the complete Development Charge By-law is available for examination during regular business hours (weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) in the offices of the City located at 500 George St N, Peterborough, and on the website at www.peterborough.ca
