Draft site plan layout of renovation

Peterborough, ON - A survey on the planned renovation of the changeroom space at the Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre is open for residents to provide feedback on the draft design.

The planned changeroom renovation is part of a larger overall project that will also include necessary upgrades to the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning system for the facility as well as plumbing infrastructure.

Replacing the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning system is necessary as the current system is at the end of its life. The new system is expected to improve air flow in the facility.

The project will also include replacing plumbing infrastructure and the renovation of the main changeroom area, which will allow for enhanced cleaning of the changeroom spaces through changes in design and using different materials.

The survey and draft design are available at connectptbo.ca/pswcreno. The survey, which was sent to Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre members on Monday, January 18, 2021, is open until Monday, January 25, 2021.

The main changeroom area will be converted to individual changerooms, replacing the three large group changerooms that are currently in that space.

“One of the benefits of this configuration is that cleaning frequency and staff presence in the area can be increased. This will lead to improved service and decreased disruption due to closing spaces during cleaning. An increase in staff presence will improve overall communication and safety of our members,” Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre Manager Rob McAulay said.

While the main changeroom area would be converted to individual changerooms in the universal design concept, the secondary changeroom area, located near the gymnasiums would remain as male and female designated changerooms.

A presentation video by the design team from Lett Architects, which was recorded during a recent Arenas, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee meeting, is also available online at connectptbo.ca/pswcreno. The project page includes frequently asked questions and other information about the project. Anyone interested in the project can sign up for future updates.

In December 2020, City Council approved the recommendation that an application be submitted to the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Funding COVID-19 Resilience Infrastructure Stream to request funding support for a rehabilitation project at the Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre.

With the public health measures in place during the COVID-19 pandemic, in-person meetings are not able to be held for the public consultation. Anyone who is having difficulty accessing the online survey can contact the Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre staff coordinating the consultation at sportandwellnesscentre@peterborough.ca or by calling 705-742-0050, ext. 2202.
