Peterborough, ON - With the current closure of the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre during the provincewide shutdown related to the COVID-19 pandemic, a locked drop box has been installed outside of the front door of the centre at 775 Brealey Dr. for people to submit completed surveys on the proposed Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre rehabilitation project.

To arrange for a paper copy of the survey, please call the Wellness Centre at 705-742-0050 ext. 2202 or email sportandwellnesscentre@peterborough.ca.

The survey is also available online at connectptbo.ca/pswcreno. The survey is open until 9 p.m. on April 22, 2021.

The City has mailed the survey to approximately 1,400 Wellness Centre users who do not have email addresses on record with the Wellness Centre and has emailed about 1,400 Wellness Centre users to notify them of the survey. As a community recreation facility, the survey is open for anyone to complete.

The survey is one way for people to provide comments or feedback on the planned rehabilitation of the Wellness Centre for City Council’s consideration as it decides on the direction for the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre rehabilitation project, including the proposed re-design of the layout of the main changeroom spaces.

Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre is planning to replace its specialized Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning system, replace deficient plumbing, and review the design of changeroom spaces to improve overall accessibility for users.

The City is asking the community on its preference on communal, gender-specific group change spaces – men’s and women’s group changerooms – and private, individual changerooms in a universal changeroom design that is not gender-specific.

A universal changeroom layout with private, individual changerooms would enhance privacy, accessibility, gender-inclusivity, and safety, as well as support operational needs, such as reducing disruption to members during cleaning of changerooms.

Through the first phase of consultation, feedback included concerns with removing the group, communal, gender-specific changerooms and with safety related to private, individual changerooms in a universal change room design that is not gender specific. City Council decided to proceed with a second consultation phase.
