Peterborough Museum and Archives now officially Rainbow Registered

Peterborough, ON – The Peterborough Museum and Archives is now officially Rainbow Registered, an accreditation administered by Canada’s 2SLGBTQI+ Chamber of Commerce that reflects commitment to creating a safer, more welcoming and inclusive space for the 2SLGBTQI+ community. 

Logo for Rainbow RegisteredThe Rainbow Registered accreditation process evaluates applicants on four categories of criteria: 

  • policies and practices are non-discriminatory and respectful of sexual orientation and gender identity. 

  • provides diversity and inclusion training for staff and volunteers and contributes to public education on diversity and inclusion. 

  • demonstrates leadership and commitment to LGBT+ inclusion beyond its day-to-day operations. 

  • has established an organizational culture that is LGBT+-inclusive and affirmative. 

“Furthering on the Peterborough Museum and Archives’ ongoing commitment to inclusivity, this accreditation means visitors can trust that we adhere to the national standards of 2SLGBTQI+ inclusivity as a Rainbow Registered organization,” said Councillor Matt Crowley, member of the Museum and Archives Advisory Committee. “Everyone is invited to visit and experience firsthand the welcoming environment that respects and celebrates all individuals. Together, let’s celebrate diversity and create more inclusivity.”

Admission is by donation. The Peterborough Museum and Archives is wheelchair and stroller accessible, and free parking is available.
