Mayor Jeff Leal has issued the following statement in recognition of International Day of Older Persons on October 1, 2024:
Today, on the International Day of Older Persons, we celebrate the invaluable contributions of older adults in our community. Their experiences, knowledge, and wisdom help shape the Peterborough we cherish today. From building our economy to nurturing families, they have played an instrumental role in every aspect of our development. Older adults continue to contribute to the vitality our community through their cultural, economic, and volunteer activities.
We honour the resilience and dedication of our elders and reaffirm our commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive community where all older adults can live with dignity and thrive.
On behalf of the City of Peterborough, I express deep gratitude to our seniors and encourage everyone to recognize the importance of intergenerational respect in building a stronger, more compassionate community.
