Notice of the Passing of a Development Charges By-Law by the Corporation of the City of Peterborough

Take Notice that on Monday, November 25, 2019, the Council of The Corporation of the City of Peterborough passed By-laws No. 19-095 and 19-096 under Section 2 of the Development Charges Act, 1997, which imposes City-wide development charges.

And Take Notice that any person or organization may appeal to the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal in respect to the by-law by filing with the Clerk of The Corporation of the City of Peterborough, not later than Monday, January 6, 2020, a notice of appeal setting out the objection to the by-law and the reasons in support of the objection.

The charges in the aforementioned by-law will apply to all new residential and non-residential development, subject to certain terms, conditions and limited exemptions as identified therein.

Development charges are levied against new development to pay for the increased capital costs related to the provision of such City services as General Government, Library Services, Recreation, Parks, Parking, Affordable Housing, Fire Services, Police Services, Public Works, Transit Services, Waste Management, Roads & Other City-wide Engineering and Sewage Treatment. The development charges imposed by the by-law are as follows:

Both the residential and non-residential development charge rates are in effect as of January 1st, 2020. Copies of the by-law can be viewed and downloaded on the City’s website at The by-law can also be examined at the City Clerk’s Office from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday at the address shown below.

A key map has not been included in this notice as the City-wide development charges applies to all lands located within the boundaries of the City of Peterborough.
