Canada recognizes November 8 as National Indigenous Veterans Day, a day to reflect on the dedication and bravery of Indigenous veterans, and the sacrifices these veterans and their families have made in service to Canada.

Mayor Jeff Leal has issued the following statement on National Indigenous Veterans Day:

“On behalf of the City of Peterborough, I would like to extend my deepest respect and gratitude on National Indigenous Veterans Day to all Indigenous veterans and their families. Today, we honour the courage, resilience, and remarkable contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis veterans who have served our country with distinction, both at home and abroad.

“Indigenous veterans have played an essential role in defending Canada’s freedoms and values, often facing unique challenges both during and after their service. Their bravery and dedication remind us of the true spirit of commitment and sacrifice, and their stories are an important part of our shared history. Thank you for your service.”
