Kaitlyn Burke – Discovery Educator: Junior Program

Hello everyone, my name is Kaitlyn and I’m so excited to be returning for my fourth year of summer camp. You'll find me running programs in the Junior program area ("Fleming Annex" or portable), in the museum, on the playground, or in in the forest! I'm a teacher for the Kawartha Pine Ridge Board and enjoy working at the Museum during the summer. Each year, I look forward to seeing the campers' smiling faces, and creating games and activities that promote learning in a specific subject. Some of my hobbies include camping, reading, crafting and travelling. I look forward to seeing you all this summer!!!

I’m Bailey! This will be my first year working at the Museum Discovery Camp. I am so excited to join the team and make memories this summer. I can be found in the Museum's classroom leading the older campers, and anywhere else our activities might take us in and around the Museum! I have spent the last six years working at summer camps, and my favourite thing about being at camp is all the adventures that I get to experience. When I am not at camp, I am either teaching, spending time with family and friends, walking my dog, or having a snack. FUN FACT: I can float on my back in the water for hours!

Hi everyone! I'm Taylor, and this will be my fourth year working for the Summer Discovery Camp. I will spend the majority of my time with Kaitlyn and the kids in the Junior Discovery Program. Something that I love about camp is being able to do new and exciting crafts with the kids every year! I enjoy hiking when not in camp, and travelling (when it's safe to do so). A fun fact about myself is that I’m a huge Star Wars fan :)

Hi! My name is Alex. This is my third year at with the museum. You'll probably see me supervising during lunches, helping with sign-in and out, and taking photos of all the fun that will be happening! Something I love about camp is getting to perform fun experiments with the campers. One of my favourites from last year were the baking soda and vinegar rockets we made. We competed to see which could go the highest, a couple even made it over the pavilion! In addition to working at camp, I am also a Masters student at Trent studying and teaching history. When I’m not at camp, I love to spend time on the water and going on long hikes with my dog, Nika. A fun fact about myself is that I am also a scuba diving instructor.

Sam Miller-Gerrard - Summer Programming Assistant

Hi - I’m Sam and this is my first year as the Programing Assistant here at the Peterborough Museum and Archives! You'll definitely see me popping in and out of the programs, helping set-up and run activities, working one-on-one with campers, and supervising during lunches. My favorite things about camp are getting to program camp activities, sharing my passion for STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) with campers, and exploring new concepts with campers. When not at camp, I’m busy studying biology and economics at Trent University, or hanging out with friends and family (pre pandemic). A fun fact about me is I have a pet bearded dragon named Ducky, which is a native Australian lizard species.

Hello! My name is Traviss. This will be my third year working and volunteering with the camp. You will find me in the senior camp program, assisting with supervision and activities, and helping out wherever I can! I really love encouraging the campers to have fun and seeing the friendships that they make throughout the week. When I’m not at camp I enjoy digital art and making jewelry. One fun fact about me would be that I’ve probably watched the film Pride and Prejudice over 30 times.

Hi there! My name is Faryn. This will be my eighth year with the Peterborough Museum & Archives' Summer Discovery Camps. You will definitely see me throughout the week at camp - supervising the playground and at lunch time, helping with programs, and during sign-in and out. I love the energy summer camps bring to the PMA! Monday mornings are always my favourite; seeing all of the excitement, a few nerves and then watching kids ease into the day and make friends is just the best. When I’m not at camp, I enjoy being with my family and relaxing with a good book. A fun, camp-related fact about me is my nickname as a camp counsellor used to be Peppy!

A big welcome to our Museum Discovery families - new to us and returning! This is my sixth summer working with this program. You're likely to see me at sign-in or out, or during lunchtime breaks. One of my favourite things about working summer camps is witnessing moments of growth in campers who might be trying something new for the first time, or who have achieved a skill that that have been working on. Outside of camp, I enjoy playing volleyball and softball, and going for hikes with my dogs. Here's a fun fact about me: at my previous camp job, I worked in a position that had me wearing a different costume each day, sometimes twice a day. One summer, I had worn over 60 different costumes!
