Businesses can put out limited table and chair space on the sidewalks within the George Street closure this weekend through a fast-track process by contacting the City of Peterborough.

Businesses that put out tables and chairs during the closure would be limited to space within 1.5 metres from the front of their buildings to maintain space for pedestrians and accessibility during the closure.

With the Province’s Stage 2 re-opening framework allowing more business activity, the purpose of the weekend closure of George Street is to provide more space for people to follow public health guidelines on physical distancing.

Businesses that would like to put out tables and chairs during the street closure are asked to send an email to Brian Buchardt or Nicole Huculiak with the Planning Division at with the submission of an insurance certificate naming the City as additionally insured with $5 million liability or call the City at 705-742-7777 ext. 1844.

Side streets and intersections remain open during the George Street closure over the weekend to assist with emergency access as well as deliveries and pickups for businesses.

The street closure is an interim measure as the City works to implement broader changes to streets, on-street parking and sidewalk space in the downtown over the next couple of weeks.
