Free Two-hour Holiday Parking Begins November 27, 2020

Peterborough, ON – Beginning Friday, November 27, 2020, shoppers can enjoy free two-hour holiday parking at all downtown municipal parking spaces. The promotion is sponsored by HotSpot Parking for the third year in a row.

From November 27 to December 31, parking fees that are voluntarily paid at pay-and-display machines, parking meters or via the HotSpot App during the free two-hour period will be donated to Kawartha Food Share.

To encourage steady turn-over of on-street parking spots and convenient access to shops and restaurants, on-street parking downtown is a maximum of two hours. Drivers cannot pay to park longer. Those who need more time are asked to park in the City’s surface lots or parking garages.

Last year, people who voluntarily paid to park during the free two-hour holiday parking period in December contributed $15,552 that was donated to Kawartha Food Share.

Ashlee Aitken, General Manager of Kawartha Food Share, expressed her gratitude to all that make this contribution possible.

“We are so thankful for the continued support we receive from the City of Peterborough as well as local shoppers each December! Our shelves are always quite bare after the busy holiday season and this incredible donation allows us to replenish our food supply and ensure our community members continue to have safe and reliable access to emergency food. Now more than ever, we need to support our amazing local businesses and we hope citizens take advantage of this initiative and shop local this December.”

HotSpot’s sponsorship supports the “gift of parking” in Peterborough for the month of December, HotSpot CEO Phillip Curley said.

“The Peterborough community has embraced HotSpot and we are happy to give back to the community by supporting this important fundraiser for Kawartha Food Share. The true spirit of the holiday is alive and well in Peterborough. This year it’s more important than ever to support those in need and make sure no one goes hungry,” Curley said.
