Picture of Jelly Bean, the Peterborough Museum's mascot in the museum gallery.

Hi Everyone,

Welcome back to the Peterborough Museum & Archives blog! It’s Jelly Bean the bear here writing to you from our clean- like really clean - but currently, empty museum gallery.

But don’t worry about me, I’m use to the quiet of hibernation. Sure, it’s a little lonely in here but I know busy days are right around the corner! Days full of little hands waving hello and petting my fur (and sometimes pulling it), laughter, questions, learning and noise, lots of noise- maybe on second thought I’ll enjoy this quiet a little longer.

Which brings me to my topic for today’s blog- Family Day!  If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s the importance of family. To celebrate and bring a little piece of the museum into your homes this long weekend, we have released two new Crafternoon videos on our YouTube channel.

Get ready to launch into our first activity, a pompom catapult. This one may require a trip to the craft store, but we promise it will entertain young and old, and hopefully earn you an extra cup of coffee in peace!

After all the excitement of catapults, this next activity may be just what your family needs to wind down. Using items found in your kitchen and craft cupboard, make your own sensory tornado. This neat craft explores forces of motion and more importantly, helps calm our minds and zen out.

Well that’s all from me! Time to return to hibernation and rest up for spring. Wishing you a happy, healthy and fun family day long weekend.
