What a year it has been! As we near the end of 2020, let's review some highlights from this year.

The Downtown Youth Space had to close back in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which was disappointing to many of our regular youth and to our staff. The space reopened in September and that was a very exciting time. Your safety remains our number one priority. At the Centre there are many COVID-19 safety precautions in place to keep both youth and staff safe. The program is such a fun place for youth to come to hang out and make new friends, socialize and get involved in recreational activities.

There are two rooms, one where the creativity happens and the other where you can rock out playing guitar. You can also challenge staff in a game of pool, air hockey and much more. If you are a video gamer, no problem: we have a few different game systems, with a bunch of fun interactive games.

We are not able to offer outings because of COVID-19 safety guidelines. However, we still have tons of fun in the park outside our space at 201 McDonnel St. For instance, during the World of Science theme day that happened last week, we wanted to know what would happen if we put a whole package of Mentos mints in a pop bottle – and it was pretty amazing what we discovered. We also find time to go outside on scavenger hunts and we have a blast playing a variety of sports in the park when the weather is nice.

In December, we will be doing a twelve days of Christmas advent calendar. Here's how it works: staff will draw a youth name that attended each night we are open, and the winner will receive a Christmas goody bag to take home.

Downtown Youth Space is not just a drop in centre to hang out, it is so much more. We open our doors to provide Peterborough youth a safe, relaxing home away from home program to attend after-school.

So come join us in all the fun that Downtown Youth Space has to offer. We are open Tuesday to Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
