Community Open House at Fire Station No. 2
Peterborough, ON – Peterborough Fire Services is hosting a Community Open House at Fire Station No. 2, 100 Marina Blvd., on Saturday, November 30 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Drop by to tour the station, explore the station’s unique features and meet the firefighters staffing Fire Station No. 2. Sparky the Fire Dog will be there to meet the youngest guests and share a few safety tips.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for our citizens to see the City’s new firefighting training facilities and equipment. This fire station and the firefighters who are working here play an integral part in keeping our community safe. It’s also a great chance to learn more about the City’s first net-zero build and emissions free building,” Community Services Co-Chair Lesley Parnell said.
The energy efficient facility uses passive solar design and renewable energy sources to achieve its net-zero goals. A combination of high-efficiency, intelligent technologies including geothermal heat pumps, rooftop solar panels, automated control systems, LED lighting, low-flow plumbing fixtures, and heat-recovery systems are all included within the building. Constructed with a mass timber structure, a carbon sequestering material, the facility has been designed to reduce its carbon footprint.
