The City of Peterborough is extending the closure of almost all City facilities to the public and the suspension of most in-person services and related programs until at least May 31, 2020.

The closure of City facilities to the public includes all recreation and cultural facilities, including:

  • Evinrude Centre;
  • Kinsmen Civic Centre;
  • Peterborough Memorial Centre;
  • Art Gallery of Peterborough;
  • Peterborough Museum and Archives;
  • Peterborough Public Library;
  • Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre; and
  • all City parks amenities (e.g. sports fields, ball diamonds, skateboard parks, playground equipment and structures, the off-leash dog park, picnic areas, boat launches and community gardens).

The closure includes the cancellation of all related programs, events, permits, and rental contracts at municipal indoor and outdoor facilities.

The May 31, 2020 date also applies to public access to the following facilities:

  • City Hall
  • Community Services office at 210 Wolfe St.
  • The Provincial Offences Office at 99 Simcoe St. and the Justice of the Peace intake office
  • Peterborough Fire Services fire halls
  • Public Works Operations Centre at 791 Webber Ave.
  • Municipal child care centres, with the exception of emergency child care for health care and essential frontline service workers under the provincial emergency Child Care Plan

“There continues to be uncertainty on the availability of facilities for public use and the ability to hold gatherings or events beyond May 31,” Chief Administrative Officer Sandra Clancy said.

“With a provincial order in place not to gather in groups of more than 5 people, direction on physical distancing and no indication yet on the number of new COVID-19 cases reducing, the City would encourage event organizers to consider the possibility that events may have to be cancelled well into the summer and they may face decision points themselves prior to May 31, 2020 depending on the preparation time and expenses needed for their event.”
