Peterborough, ON – The upcoming 2021 Budget Roadshow meetings previously scheduled in March and April have been postponed indefinitely to respect COVID-19 social distancing guidelines. The City of Peterborough is looking at options to continue the conversation with the community remotely and will provide an update once arrangements are made.

In the meantime, the community is invited to share ideas to help shape the setting of priorities for the City of Peterborough’s 2021 Budget with an online community survey at ConnectPtbo.ca/2021Budget. The survey is open until 9 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2020.

In addition to questions on priorities for the City’s programs and services, the survey asks participants to share ideas and provide comments on how the City could invest the proceeds from the sale of Peterborough Distribution Inc., which is expected to generate $50 million to $55 million in revenue after debt and other expenses.

“The budget is important, but the health and safety of our community is far more important,” said Councillor Dean Pappas, Finance Committee chair. “We want you to stay home, stay safe, and help slow the spread of COVID-19. Tell us what your priorities are for the City by completing the online survey at ConnectPtbo.ca.”

Results from the consultation will be reported back to the community through a What We Heard report, which will be provided to Council for its consideration when setting the guidelines for the development of the 2021 Budget. A separate report specific to investing the proceeds from the sale of Peterborough Distribution Inc. will be presented to Council, including information from the community consultation.

Recommendations on the budget guidelines are expected to be presented to Council’s Finance Committee meeting on Monday, June 8, 2020, which will be followed by a formal meeting with public delegations on the budget guidelines that is currently scheduled for Wednesday, June 24, 2020. Council approval of the budget guidelines is expected on Monday, June 29, 2020.
