Peterborough, ON – Residents, community groups and businesses are invited to speak to City Council, sitting as Finance Committee, during a public meeting on the 2020 Budget guideline, starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 500 George St. N.

“This is another opportunity for our community to have a say in the drafting of our City’s 2020 Budget. These are your services and your tax dollars,” said Councillor Dean Pappas, the City’s Finance Chair.

The preliminary 2020 Budget Guideline report, which was released for public review on May 2, 2019, is available online at peterborough.ca/budget.

The development of the City’s budget includes setting the guideline for its preparation, the drafting of the operating and capital budget, and ultimately Council’s review of the draft budget documents before the financial plan is considered for final approval. There are opportunities throughout the process for the community to engage with Council and City staff.

Council is expected to consider final approval of the 2020 Budget on December 9, 2019.

This year, the budget engagement process included a Budget Roadshow with a drop-in session or public meeting in each of the five wards in the City as well as a survey on budget priorities. About 300 people attended the five sessions and the City received 996 responses to the survey that was open from April 15 to May 10. The results of the survey will be included in the report that will go to Council’s committee meeting on June 10.

A list of public engagement opportunities for the 2020 Budget process as well as information on the budget is available at peterborough.ca/budget. The information on the site will be updated as the budget process continues.
