200th Anniversary of Peter Robinson Irish Emigration

2025 marks the 200th Anniversary of the Peter Robinson Irish Emigration.
The 2,000 settlers who arrived in 1825 significantly shaped Nogojiwanong-Peterborough and the surrounding region.
This year's commemoration honours their journey and enduring legacy.
At the Peterborough Museum & Archives (PMA) you can learn about the Peter Robinson settlement by visiting our long-term exhibitions. Here you will find:
- The experience of the Anishinaabe Peoples who shared their lands, through Treaty 20, signed in 1818.
- The Ships lists documenting Irish families and individuals who emigrated.
- The Memorandum poster for Peter Robinson’s emigration plan to recruit families to travel from Ireland to Canada.
- A full size, immersive re-creation of the ship’s berth accommodations for the passengers making the voyage.
- A full size, re-creation of a log cabin, representing those provided by the British government to settlers.
- An account of the government supplies provided to the settlers upon arrival.
We look forward to your visit, in commemoration of this significant event and its impact on the heritage of Nogojiwanong-Peterborough.
The PMA is open:
