Our Volunteer Opportunities

As a volunteer, you’ll gain valuable skills and experience, engage our community, and develop meaningful friendships. If you are interested in learning more, please check out our current opportunities.

For adults

We are currently accepting applications for docents. A docent acts as a guide to the exhibitions, answers visitors' questions and provides mini tours of our displays. Docents support and represent us during the Ice Age Mammals exhibition, and potentially other future exhibitions, by facilitating visitor satisfaction and learning through a variety of activities and techniques including:

  • Leading tours and interpreting the exhibition for visitors
  • Communicating directly with visitors regarding the exhibition and their questions
  • Maintaining an attitude of respect and professionalism with all visitors

To become a docent, you must:

  • Attend a volunteer orientation session, and training session (dates to be announced)
  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Commit to a minimum of 40 hours over the duration of the exhibit, for a minimum of 4 hours per shift
  • Be dependable and accountable for your responsibilities as a docent
  • Be available to lead tours
  • Present information in a manner consistent with program goals and objectives
  • Accept periodic evaluations of performance and conduct including peer-review and self-evaluation
  • Maintain an attitude of respect, professionalism, and flexibility with peers, PMA staff and visitors of the museum
  • Follow guidelines and procedures at all times

We encourage qualified individuals to submit an online application. We will make training and resources available to all docents.
