Peterborough's Summer Play Program

Summer Play is focused on offering a variety of week-long, full day programs providing children with a chance to practice physical distancing while still having access to summer programming. There are currently two locations for this program, with additional locations being considered based on demand.

Location: 24 Whitlaw Street

Program length: Monday to Friday

Time: Drop-off begins at 8:30 am, pick-up ends at 4:30 pm

Age: 6 to 11 years old

Cost: $208 per child, per week

COVID-19 procedures

The City of Peterborough undertakes to safeguard your child while they participate in this camp-alternative registered program. Program staff are doing the following in response to COVID-19 and to support the health of all participants and staff:

  • Program staff will complete COVID screening, updated First Aid training, and program training prior to program start.
  • Participants will be divided into small groups of 6 children and 1 staff person for the duration of the program. Siblings will always be placed within the same groups, regardless of age.
    • Scheduled hand washing, washroom access, and socially distanced activities will happen within these small groups each day.
  • Small groups will remain separated and will not interact throughout the day.
  • Program equipment and touch surfaces will be disinfected between use and throughout the day.
  • Washrooms will be disinfected after each use, and receive a deep-cleaning nightly.

In order for a successful program, participants and families are asked to adhere to the following procedures and guidelines:

  • Participants are not permitted to attend the program if:
    • The participant or any family/household member has traveled outside of Canada within the last 14 days;
    • The participant or any family/household member has experienced any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 within the past 14 days;
    • The participant or any family/household member has been exposed to a person or group with a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 within the past 14 days; or
    • The participant shows any signs or symptoms of any form of illness.

Families are advised that if any non-compliance occurs at any time, admission to the program will be denied.

  • Temperature checks will be taken upon entry into the program each day. If a high temperature is observed, the participant will not be permitted to enter the program. Refunds for this program will not be provided unless the request is accompanied with a medical note.
  • If the participant shows any signs or symptoms of illness while at the program, the family will be contacted immediately by the program and the child(ren) shall be picked up within a maximum of 30 minutes of the contact call.
  • Program staff request that all clothing and belongings are washed and/or changed each evening in preparation for the following day.
  • Participants are permitted to wear face masks if they are tolerable for them, but face masks are not required.

The participant and family members will be required to follow the health and safety, physical distancing, screening, and hygiene protocols of the program on a daily basis and compliance will be mandatory.

and sign-out

Program sign-in and sign-out is located adjacent to the parking lot before the bridge entry to the site.

  • In order to maintain site requirements, parents or family members will not have access to the program site and will be restricted to the drop-off and pick-up location adjacent to the parking area at all times.
  • Sign-in begins at 8:30 am daily. Supervision will not be provided before 8:30 am.
  • Adults are required to sign their children into the program upon arrival in the morning, where a daily screening will take place, including a temperature check.
  • Sign-out is available until 4:30 pm daily. Supervision will not be provided after 4:30 pm. Participants who are not picked up by 4:30 will be penalized, as after care is not provided.
  • Adults are required to sign their children out of the program daily.
  • Late sign-in or early sign-out: as parents/family members do not have access to the program site, please call the mobile number to inform the program supervisor of your arrival. A program staff member will then meet you in the parking lot to complete entry screening, or to walk child out for sign-out.
