The Sport & Wellness Centre's subsidy program is available for registered programs for children and adults that take place at the Centre. This program assists low-income families who do not receive social assistance with registration costs. The Centre's subsidy program is different from the Recreation Fee Subsidy program. To be eligible, you must meet the financial criteria below. If you meet these criteria, please complete the online application at the bottom of this page.

Recipients of Ontario Works and ODSP are not eligible for this funding. Please contact Social Services at 705-748-8830 to inquire about discretionary benefits. If you have maximized your discretionary benefits, you can apply to Jumpstart's individual child grant.

The Sport & Wellness Centre is partnered with Jumpstart, an organization committed to ensuring children age 4 to 18 in need have equal access to sports and physical activity. 

  • Participants age 4 to 18 are required to access Jumpstart's individual child grants prior to requesting assistance through the Sport & Wellness Centre program subsidy application.
  • If you have exhausted your Jumpstart funding or your application was denied, you can apply for our subsidy program by filling out the application below. Proof of your Jumpstart application is required in order to be eligible.

To apply for Jumpstart's individual child grant:

  • Applications must be submitted prior to the program's start date.
  • Applications must include proof of financial need. 
  • Available funding is up to $300 per activity, subject to Chapter discretion and/or local demands. 
  • Children can be funded for successive seasons in an activity, up to a maximum of $300 per activity. 
  • The annual maximum amount a child is eligible to receive is up to $600, with two funding periods: January to June, and July to October.

Program subsidy application

If your application is approved, you may receive a 50% discount off of the program fee you are registering yourself or your child into. Please note:

  • Completion and/or approval of this application does not guarantee a reserved space in a Sport & Wellness Centre registered program. Participants are responsible for registering for the programs they are interested in at the Centre, according to standard registration dates and procedures once their application has been approved.
  • Applications for programs that have already been paid for or taken place will not be accepted. 
  • Applications for discounted swimming lessons must be completed and approved at least 10 business days before registration opens for the session. Registration dates can be found on the How to Register page.
  • Applications for day camps, child and youth programs, or adult fitness programs at the Centre must be completed and approved at least 10 business days prior to the program start date.

Required documentation

To apply for the program subsidy, you are required to provide an electronic copy of one of the documents below that verifies total household income. Pay stubs will not be accepted. All income must be declared and verified for every adult residing in the household. You can upload a photo or attach a PDF copy:

  • Most recent Notice of Assessment, line 236 for the applicant and spouse (if applicable), or
  • Most recent Family Net Income from your Canada Child Tax Benefit statement.

If you are applying for a child age 4 to 18, you are also required to provide proof of your Jumpstart funding information, through your client number, or proof that your funding application was denied. This can be a photo/screen shot of the 'application denied' web page or email.

You can apply for multiple program discounts at once, for one or more participants. Have the program name, course code, and start date information available when you apply. Program information and fees can be found on the registration page of the program.
