How can I apply for Ontario Works

If you are over 18

If you are over the age of 18 and need assistance through Ontario Works, you can:

 

Apply by phone:

Call 1-888-999-1142 to speak with a representative. Centralized intake will make it easier to apply for social assistance.

 

Apply online:

If you have access to a computer, you can apply directly online at apply directly online for Ontario Works. The online application for Ontario Works is available 24/7.

 

If you are under 18

If you are under the age of 18 and there are circumstances which prevent you from living with your parents, you may be eligible for Ontario Works. To apply for Ontario Works visit our office at 178 Charlotte Street or call 705-748-8830

Temporary Care Assistance

If you are an adult and you are temporarily responsible for the care of a child who is financial need, you may be eligible for temporary care assistance on their behalf. You can apply online for Temporary Care Assistance, visit our office at 178 Charlotte Street or call 705-748-8830.

Emergency Assistance

If you are in an emergency, you may be eligible for one-time emergency assistance. You can apply online for Emergency Assistance, visit our office at 178 Charlotte Street or call 705-748-8830.

What do I need to apply?

Whether you apply online, in person or over the phone you may be asked to provide as many of the following documents as possible:

  1. Social insurance number;
  2. Health card number;
  3. Proof of identity and date of birth, like birth certificates;
  4. Employment history/information, like your record of employment or tax information;
  5. Income information like pay stubs and asset information like bank accounts;
  6. Shelter costs like rent receipts and utility bills.
