COVID-19 Update

  • The Ministry of Education announced that licensed child care centres may begin to reopen on June 12.
  • The City of Peterborough, is working with Peterborough Public Health, in developing a framework for a slow and safe reopening of licensed child care centres in the city.
  • In Peterborough, child care centres were not ready to open on June 12.  Centres will reopen on different dates as they are ready.
  • All centres will be required to follow strict health protocols and meet additional requirements to safely reopen. The new protocols include:
    • enhanced cleaning
    • mandatory screening of staff and children
    • limitations on visitors
    • ensuring an updated COVID-19 response plan is in place
    • group size will be limited to 10 individuals per room, including both staff and children.
  • The City’s framework will be based on the direction of the local Medical Officer of Health, and will outline the requirements for all licensed child care providers in Peterborough.
  • Staff will be required to complete mandatory PPE and health and safety training prior to reopening.
  • We recognize that the child care needs for many families have changed over the past few months. Child care operators are in the process of connecting with families to determine their child care needs and will be assessing their capacity to meet these needs.
  • At this time, families that choose not to return to child care will not be charged fees and your child care space will be held. More information on the length of time that child care spaces will be held will be shared once it becomes available.
