Job Details

The Lifeguards and Swimming Instructors will be responsible for public safety and providing customer service to patrons in all City of Peterborough Aquatic locations such as Sport and Wellness Centre, seasonal waterfronts and wading pools; in addition to conducting basic pool maintenance, including water testing. The position will involve, teaching swimming lessons with administrate tasks related to the delivery of aquatic programming. Participating in all staff training, promoting water safety and creating a positive public image for the City of Peterborough


This position requires current and valid National Lifeguard Service (NLS) certification, Waterfront NL is considered an assist.  Lifesaving Society Instructors certification and Standard First Aid and Level “C” CPR and AED certifications.  The successful candidates will have exceptional customer service skills in addition to excellent written and oral communication skills.  This position requires the ability to be flexible and problem solve in a fast-paced environment. Experience working with children in a pool environment would be preferred.

These positions will have flexible schedules including early mornings, evenings and weekends. This vacancy is contingent based on COVID provincial and local public health restrictions and guidelines and the ability to run programs and/or office closures.  Every effort will be made to keep you up to date with details.
