Job Details

Reports directly to the Working Foreman and the Supervisor, Facility and Parks Services, the Facility and Parks Operator is responsible for the day-to-day operation of facilities and operations. This position will be required to carry out indoor & outdoor facility and parks maintenance at assigned facilities or parks locations. Primary  tasks include but are not limited to: operate ice resurfacing equipment , monitoring and recording refrigeration equipment readings in accordance with TSSA and CSA B52 standards; monitoring and recording pool chemistry in accordance with Ontario Pool Regulation 565; parks and open space , operate a variety of landscape equipment for the maintenance of sports fields, playgrounds,   irrigation systems, splash pads, wading pools and related mechanical devices; inspect and maintain fitness equipment; minor facility and equipment repairs; cleaning and janitorial services and snow clearing. This position also provides customer service to facility users and the public by handling general inquiries, and assisting with set ups and facility rentals, as required. This position will also oversee and provide direction to seasonal/part time staff. The Facility and Parks Operator shall also identify and respond to all Health and Safety issues and adhere to all safe working practices and ensure compliance with all legislative and regulatory requirements.  

Qualifications

Requires a Grade 12 education or equivalent and successful completion, or ability to obtain within a defined period, of Basic Arena Refrigeration (BAR) and Certified Pool Operator (CPO), or equivalent courses. Must have a minimum of one (1) year demonstrated experience in recreational facilities and/or parks maintenance, preferably in a municipal environment. Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification would be considered an asset.  Additional knowledge of proper safe work procedures including familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS 2015. The selected applicant will require basic computer skills including email and Microsoft office applications. Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently.  

Note: Preference will be given to those candidates with experience in a recreational facility and that currently have obtained BAR and/or CPO training qualifications prior to the posting closing.  

This position will involve shift work (days, evenings, nights, weekends).  The hours of work and location of the positions will be assigned by the employer based on operational needs. 

Hourly Rate

Classification for this position with CUPE L504: Operator 1- 6 Facility and Parks Services

$28.72/hour
