Job Details

You will process various types of building permit applications, providing technical review of both the smaller and larger permit applications, along with providing technical OBC code advice and interpretations to applicants, builders and developers. Assist the Permit Technicians in managing administrative portions of permit applications, permit fee transactions, AMANDA software database and the online Portal. Provide a complement of support to the current responsibilities associated with the Permit Technician and Plans Examination roles.


This position requires an individual with the completion of a post-secondary 2-year diploma in Architectural Technology or Engineering Technology. Consideration will be given to a related field including a fully qualified red seal trade and/or BCIN designer. A minimum of three years’ enforcement experience in a Municipal Building Department, provincial regulatory institution, or similar environment. Must be a member with good standing of The Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists or Association of Architectural Technologists of Ontario and The Ontario Building Officials Association, holding designation of CBCO. Must possess and maintain Provincial Building Code (BCIN) qualifications in: House, Small Buildings, Building Services, HVAC House, Lighting and Power and General Legal/Process or Powers and Duties of a Chief Building Official. Proficient in the use of AMANDA software and Microsoft based computer applications. Experience using corporate GIS software package. Extensive working knowledge and experience with the Ontario Building Code, with a detailed understanding to interpret all the current technical regulations and standards within the Code. Access to reliable transportation is required.
