Peterborough Utility Services- Student/Co-op Opportunities
Located in Peterborough, the water generation, distribution and treatment divisions of Peterborough Utilities services has summer student opportunities! Please review the positions and brief summary of duties below and follow the Application Instructions.
Positions

Applicants are required to confirm that they are currently enrolled in a Post Secondary education program and returning to full time studies in Fall 2025; Able and available to work 8-hour shifts, including work days, evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime (where required) from May 1 to Labour Day; Possess a valid “G” license in good standing; and able to work in uncontrolled climate conditions.
Water Distribution Student – File #25-T-28
The Water Distribution Summer Student provides assistance general assistance for the Water Utility division including: processing service orders; assist water distribution staff in the field; miscellaneous clerical duties including data entry, photocopying, mailing, faxing and filing; deliver and monitor water buggy; provide back up coverage to Water Administrative Assistant; meter reading; general clean up duties.
- Candidates must be enrolled in Post Secondary education program in business or environmental studies or other related discipline.
- Requires previous administrative and physical labour experience.
Water Treatment Plant Student – File #25-T-29
The Water Treatment Plant Student assists the Water Treatment Plant and Pumphouse/Dam staff with various manual labour duties at different locations including: lawn maintenance; maintenance of buildings and landscaping; general clean up duties.
- Candidates must be enrolled in Post Secondary education program in environmental sciences, or other related discipline.
- Requires previous physical labour experience.
Water Engineering Student – File #25-T-30
The Water Engineering Student provides engineering support to the water department including: review engineering drawings and assist with the preparation of construction specifications; assist with and update the water model using WaterGems, assist and review water main break history, freeze history and water quality issues in water distribution system; update engineering drawing database and assist with the review and updating of the GIS database.
- Candidates must be enrolled in Post Secondary education program in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
- Water/Civil experience or knowledge of water distribution and infrastructure an asset
Qualifications
See position-specific qualification requirements outlined above. Candidates must possess the skills to perform the duties of the position with minimal guidance and supervision. Must be self-motivated, and possess effective customer service and communication skills. Demonstrated excellent safety record and attitude. First Aid and CPR considered an asset.

Salary
Starting wage: $17.20 - $17.55* per hour (wage under review)
