Making a payment to the City 

If you have an account with the City or have received an invoice, there are a number of options to make a payment.

Payment options:

Pre-Authorized Payment Plans

Never miss a due date. Sign up for our pre-authorized payment plans. It's easy and free.

  • Payments: this plan debits your bank account on each invoice due date.

You can sign up by completing the pre-authorized payment plan application form. Please note that you must pay any outstanding invoiced amounts in full before your application can be processed.

If you are already set up for pre-authorized payments and need to change the banking information or cancel your plan, please complete the pre-authorized payment change form

Applications and change requests must be submitted at east 10 business days prior to your next invoice due date.

Through your bank

You can now make your invoice payment through your financial institution, telebank and online banking. Please add the City of Peterborough Accounts Receivable to your Payee list by using the search word “Peterborough”. Once located please use your 6-digit Account Number located on your invoice.

At the Tax Office
You can pay by cash, cheque or debit card at the Tax Office in City Hall at 500 George St. N. during regular business hours, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (except statutory holidays).
By cheque
Cheques can be mailed to the Tax Office, dropped off in person, or placed in our secure drop-box located by the steps at the front doors of City Hall, 500 George St. N. Please make all cheques payable to the “City of Peterborough”.
By credit card

Credit card payments for invoices are not accepted directly by the City of Peterborough.  However, invoices can be paid online by credit card using an online bill payment service provider such as PaySimply or Plastiq. These providers are neither affiliates nor partners of the City. They may apply service charges and there may be restrictions on the types of credit cards accepted.

The City of Peterborough receives only the invoiced amount. Payment is processed by the City on the date the funds are received, which may be a few days after payment is made.

Late payment charges and notifications

Penalty and interest will be charged on Invoices which are not paid on or before the due dates. Penalty on outstanding invoices amounts are charged on the first day of each month at a rate of 1.25% (15% annually).

Your contact information may be used by the City of Peterborough to communicate past due payment reminders by phone, email, text and/or physical mail. Large item collection

Looking to dispose of something too big or heavy for our regular curbside garbage collection? We provide a monthly large item collection service from April to September. The cost is $30 for the first item and $10 for each additional item, except for mattresses and box springs. Mattresses and box springs are $30 each and do not count as a first item for qualifying for the reduced rate.
