Job Details

Reporting to the City Solicitor, the Manager, Realty Services is the subject matter expert responsible for the management of the City’s real property interests including acquisitions, dispositions, leases, licences, easements, encroachments and other agreements, appraisal services, real estate consulting, marketing, procurement, negotiations and the management of inventories of the City’s real property interests with a view to maximizing returns for the City (collectively, “Real Property Management”).

Qualifications:

This position requires an individual with a 4-year undergraduate or graduate degree in business, urban planning or geography or equivalent together with specialized training in land development, real estate. Accreditation with AACI (Accredited Appraisal Canadian Institute) and IRWA (International Right of Way – land services) is preferred. A minimum of 5 years of real estate experience in appraisal, negotiation and disposal / conveyance of real estate, asset management, and real estate policy development. Advanced knowledge of property appraisal practices and principles, real estate acquisition, lease, license and disposal, expropriation. Working knowledge of legal surveys & municipal official plans, land use, zoning, building codes, the Land Titles and Registry systems, Commercial Tenancies Act, Residential Tenancies Act, 2006, Expropriations Act, Environmental Assessment Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, real property law and real estate practices including law, legislation, appraisal, land use planning, economics and market research.

Demonstrated ability to lead respecting Real Property Management including the preparation comprehensive reports, develop creative and strategic solutions to complex problems and present recommendations regarding appraisal and disposal of real property assets, real property portfolio management and real property assessment. Excellent decision making, problem solving, and customer service skills. Computer proficiency in Microsoft office/software. Ability to lead and work collaboratively within a team environment to achieve Strategic objectives / goals while respecting diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives. Demonstrate corporate values at all times. Utilize relationship building and interpersonal skills, as this work involves key partnerships and involvement with internal and external stakeholders such as: lawyers, planners, appraisers, environmental consultants, landowners, and internal client divisions etc.

Preference to candidates that have an active membership in the Ontario Appraisal Institute of Canada, Ontario Expropriation Association and International Right-of-Way Association. Preference to candidates that are active participants in the Ontario Association of Municipal Real Estate Administrators.

A valid driver’s licence is required.

Salary:  $99,070 - $108,290
