Position Description

The Manager, Fleet Operations oversees the operational management of the fleet garage and technicians, ensuring compliance with regulations and best practices in asset management. Working under general direction, this role organizes, monitors, and supervises equipment shop operations within the Public Works Department. Key responsibilities include managing technical tasks related to vehicle and equipment maintenance and providing expert technical support to Public Works managers and the director.

Qualifications and Other Pertinent Details

A minimum of five years of experience in municipal operations, with a focus on technical and maintenance functions, and at least five years of supervisory experience coordinating work crews, assignments, and implementing best practices, ideally within a unionized environment. Demonstrated experience managing labor and employee relations issues, particularly in a unionized setting, is essential.

A current 310T Certification for the Province of Ontario is required; 310S Certification and a Class DZ Driver’s License are considered assets. Training in legal proceedings, claims defense, or related fields is an asset. Strong knowledge of fleet asset management, shop management practices, repair procedures, and preventative maintenance theories. Comprehensive understanding of regulations and requirements from the Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Environment, and Ministry of Labour.

Familiarity with applicable legislation, including the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Employment Standards Act, Highway Traffic Act, and the Commercial Vehicle Operator's Registration (CVOR) program. A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record meeting the standards set by the City of Peterborough. 

Classification for this position: Non-Union Job Class 6

Salary: $120,634 - $131,861
