Inspector - Large and Complex Buildings
Job Details
Interpret and enforce the Ontario Building Code and Building Code Act by performing plans review of and inspecting small and large buildings, complex buildings, building structural components and building services in accordance with provincial requirements. Ensure compliance with relevant laws such as site plan agreement, zoning by-law, subdivision agreement and other applicable laws. Investigate complaints, issue the appropriate OBC orders and assist the Deputy Chief Building Official in the prosecution of orders in the event of continued non-compliance.
Qualifications
Knowledge and experience normally associated with a two-year college diploma in Construction Engineering (Civil) or Architectural Technician program, or equivalent trades certification in a related OBC construction discipline. Requires certification/qualification in legal, house, small building, large & complex buildings, building services, building structural, lighting and power and fire protection and is a Certified Building Code Official (CBCO). Requires a combination of up to 5 years previous and/or on-the-job experience in performing municipal plans review of and/or inspecting progressively more complex large structures. Must have: excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills. Must have the ability to: interpret and apply legislation and highly technical information; exercise sound judgement; diffuse emotionally charged situations; deal with objections in a professional, non-confrontational manner; and work effectively both independently and in a team environment. Certification from the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians & Technologists and the Ontario Association of Property Standards Officers Association is preferred. Requires valid driver’s license & vehicle to perform the duties of the job.
Rate of Pay
$46.78-$48.69 per hour
