Brealey Drive Reconstruction - Lansdowne Street West to Sherbrooke Street
September 3, 2024 update
A temporary accessible well-kept granular pedestrian path is available for use through the construction zone for the purpose of pedestrian commuters to and from nearby schools.
This temporary path is established for the start of the 2024 school season, ensuring pedestrian access during the construction period. We anticipate that the granular path will remain in use until mid-September, at which point it will be fully hard surfaced (i.e. paved with asphalt or poured concrete), barring any unexpected delays resulting from weather or other factors.
Tender Contract Number: ITT-05-24
The City has awarded ITT-05-24 to Behan Construction Limited. The Contractor is scheduled to mobilize to this location in April 2024. The work is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2025.
The scope of work generally includes; replacements of storm sewers, sanitary sewers and watermains, installations of new concrete curb and gutters and concrete sidewalks, installation of a new off-street multi-use trail and on-street cycling lanes, replacements of the roadway granular base and the asphalt roadway, restorations of boulevards, replacements of street lighting, signage, landscaping and pavement markings. New cycling and pedestrian features will include:
- A new multi-use trail along the west side of Brealey Drive;
- A new concrete sidewalk along the east side of Brealey Drive;
- Implementation of traffic signals at Cherryhill Road, Kawartha Heights Boulevard, and Hewitt Drive, with enhanced cycling and pedestrian crossing facilities as well as turning lanes to enhance all traffic movements and corridor efficiency at these intersections;
- On-street cycling lanes on both the east and west sides of Brealey Drive; and
- Installation of green anti-skid treatments at various locations along the cycling facilities.
Existing trees and vegetation throughout the Brealey Drive corridor will be impacted during the work as required to support construction activities. Landscaping remediation work will take place when construction is complete.
To facilitate this work, Brealey Drive will be closed to through traffic with posted detours until the work is complete. The 2024 closure will be from Mapleridge Drive to Lansdowne Street West. Access for local traffic will be maintained during the closures, however, it is expected that local traffic may experience delays within the construction limits. Peterborough Transit will detour Route 9 Parkhill through Kawartha Heights Boulevard.
