Nomination Day

Nomination Day for the 2018 Municipal Election is Friday, July 27, 2018. This will mark the last day for candidates to file a nomination paper at the City Clerk’s Office. Nominations will be accepted from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Nomination Day. This is also the deadline for a candidate to withdraw. 

A candidate may file their nomination for any of the following offices: 

Mayor (Elected by general vote)

Councillors (Two to be elected from each of five Wards)

Trustee, Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board (Two to be elected City-wide)

Trustee, Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board
(Two to be elected City-wide)
Conseiller(ére), Conseil Scolaire Viamonde (One to be elected by District)

Conseiller(ére), Conseil Scolaire Catholique Mon Avenir (One to be elected by District)

The last day for third party advertisers to register is Friday, October 19, 2018 at 4:30 p.m. 

The election campaign period for third party advertisers and candidates begins on the day they file a nomination for office or when a third party registers. A contribution shall not be accepted or an expense incurred by or on behalf of a person or entity unless they are a candidate or registered third party.

Nomination papers must be signed by the candidate and may be filed in the Office of the City Clerk in person or by any agent during normal office hours (8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.). Identification is required at the time of nomination.

A prescribed nomination fee of $200 for the Office of the Mayor and $100 for all other offices, in the form of cash, debit/credit card, certified cheque must accompany the nomination. Mayor and councillor positions will require 25 endorsement signatures from eligible electors.  

Candidates filing a nomination paper for trustee with the French Language School Boards, Conseil Scolaire Viamonde and Conseil Scolaire Catholique Mon Avenir, shall file with the City Clerk, City of Oshawa, 50 Centre Street South, Oshawa, Ontario L1H 3Z7.

A nomination paper must be certified by the Clerk before such person becomes a Certified Candidate. Nominations will be officially certified by the City Clerk on Monday, July 30, 2018 by 4:00 p.m.

If the number of nominations filed for an office is less than the number of persons to be elected to office, additional nominations may be filed on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. in the Office of the City Clerk. Additional nominations would be certified on Thursday, August 2, 2018 by 4:00 p.m.
