Description: Many injuries, by older adults age 65 and over, can be predicted and prevented.  Falls are the leading cause of injury, responsible for deaths and are a main reason for admission to a nursing home.  Injuries for seniors can mean the difference between dependency requiring institutional care and good health with independent living in the community.  The Peterborough County-City Health Unit urges older adults and their caregivers to be safety conscious.  The PCCHU has an Older Adult link on their website with information for seniors.

Peterborough Elder Abuse Prevention Network 

Mission - To be leaders in the development of an integrated and collaborative strategy to address the prevention of elder abuse in Peterborough City and County through networking, information sharing, raising awareness.

The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) Aging at Home Program

The MNO Aging at Home Program assists Indigenous seniors (55 years of age or older) to continue living independently at home.  Supports include home care (light housekeeping, laundry, and bath preparation), friendly visits to help with loneliness, scheduling transportation for community errands, contracting services for lawn maintenance and snow removal, and coordinating with other support services in order to promote health and wellbeing.  Our focus is on supporting independence, providing practical solutions, and caring for our elders.
