Financial Assistance

Picture of a young man holding a calculator.If you qualify, Ontario Works can provide you with money to help you cover the cost of your basic needs (i.e. food) & housing costs. The amount of money you may receive from Ontario Works will depend on your:

  • family size
  • income
  • assets
  • and housing costs.

Calculating the amount of money you may get is complicated.

Our Deskside Video is:

  • completed with all applications at the first meeting known as the Verification Interview,
  • outlines your rights and responsibilities,
  • provides information about employment and financial assistance,

Discretionary Benefits

  • Each municipality determines which benefits they will offer from a range of health and non-health items and services.
  • Peterborough City Council determines what items and services will be offered to people in receipt of social assistance. 
  • Benefits are provided on a case-by-case basis.
