Airport Development Program

In the fall of 2008, the City of Peterborough commissioned LPS AVIA Consulting to develop a business case for the development of infrastructure at the Peterborough Airport. The City was on the threshold of making large capital expenditures at the Airport to facilitate the growth of the anchor tenant and others. The City’s interest in the Airport reflects the growing success of Airport tenants and the vital role that airports play in regional economic development.

The recommendations of the Business Case were accepted by City Council and an Airport Master Plan was commissioned in the spring of 2009.

The Airport Master Plan considered short term, medium and long term improvements at the airport to support harmonized development of airport lands to best suit the requirements of the business case.

Many short-term developments within the Plan have been selected by the City to be added to their current Airport Development Program to form an Expanded Airport Development Program.

The proposed Airport Expansion Project will provide current and prospective tenants with opportunities involving narrow body aircraft such as the Boeing 737-900 and Airbus A320 aircraft.

On October 16, 2009 the City was awarded $14.0 Million in Federal/Provincial Funding under the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund to support a $28.5 Million Expanded Airport Development Project.
