Travel survey kicks off study on transit network overhaul

The City of Peterborough is considering an overhaul to its transit network as part of a two-year study aimed at improving existing local transit routes, identifying options to replace the existing downtown terminal, and developing a long-term growth strategy for the transit network.

The first step in this study starts with a travel survey, which will collect information about common travel patterns throughout the City and how our current customers use the transit system today.

The survey will ask respondents about where they traveled to and from within Peterborough most recently, as well as basic demographic information about themselves and their household.

Kevin Jones, manager of the City’s Transportation Division, notes that “The travel pattern and demographic data gathered in this survey is incredibly important to our planning process. The results will help us better understand where and how people in Peterborough are traveling. This will allow us to redesign existing transit routes and plan new ones that serve riders better today, as well as in the future.”

The survey will be conducted both in-person at the Peterborough Transit Terminal, 190 Simcoe St., and online from November 19 to November 30, 2018. The information collected during the survey is anonymous and will only be used to represent city-wide travel patterns. Survey staff from the consulting firm, IBI Group, will be wearing identification badges so they can be readily recognized.

To complete the survey online, please visit http://ptsurvey.ca before November 30, 2018. Survey participants who wish to receive updates and information during the study can register for our email list, and enter into a draw to win prizes such as an Amazon Echo Plus, a Fitbit Flex 2, 30-day transit passes, and more.
