Notice of Study Update

Peterborough Municipal Airport, City of Peterborough Sanitary Investigation, Pumping Station / Forcemain Upgrades and Water/Wastewater Capacity Investigation / Servicing Upgrades Municipal Class Environmental Assessment

The Study

Key Map for Airport Study UpdateThe City of Peterborough initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) to evaluate the existing sanitary infrastructure, the sanitary servicing planning and alternatives, and the design of upgrades to the sanitary pumping station and forcemain that service the Peterborough Municipal Airport (see key map). The current sanitary pumping station is reaching capacity due to recent increases in flow rates from the expansion of the airport.

Since initiating the EA, there have been reported domestic water quality and water supply issues at the Airport. As such, the scope of the study is being updated to include the investigation of the existing potable water infrastructure capacity and evaluation of alternative solutions to address the deficiencies and to service the existing and ultimate future development of the Airport.

Once a preferred plan has been identified, a conceptual design will be developed incorporating measures to minimize impacts to the environment and the community.
WSP Canada Group Limited is undertaking this study on behalf of the City of Peterborough.

The Process

The study is being carried out under Schedule ‘B’ of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment, which is an approved planning process under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act.
Consultation will take place throughout the study with external agencies, property owners and the public. An EA Project File will be prepared to document the preferred design for the sanitary upgrades, and the potential environmental impacts and mitigation measures. A future notice will be advertised to advise of the filing of the Project File on the public record for a 30-day review period.
