Notice of Public Open House: Secondary Suites Policy Review

The Project

In 2011 the Province of Ontario passed Bill 140, the Strong Communities Through Affordable Housing Act. The Act includes a requirement for municipalities to implement policies in their Official Plans and regulations in their Zoning By-laws to permit secondary suites in detached, semi-detached and townhouse dwellings.

Secondary suites (also known as accessory or basement apartments, secondary units, two-unit housing, “granny flats” and inlaw flats) are typically defined as self-contained residential units with kitchen and bathroom facilities within a dwelling or within a structure accessory to a dwelling.

Public Consultation

Two Public Open Houses will be held at the following dates, times and locations. A presentation will be given at 7:15 p.m. followed by a question period. Information boards will also be on display and staff will be present to answer any questions.
